Stony Brook Medicine physician-researchers are making bold moves to change biomedical imaging. As we delve into the innermost workings of the human body, we discover new ways for imaging to treat and care for our community. With the latest imaging tools, our explorations make big strides in personalized cancer care. Stony Brook research is already leading to earlier detection of cancer, new treatments, better monitoring of how patients respond to treatment and even new preventive measures.
Stony Brook is one of the first medical centers in the country to have a PET/MRI scanner. We use it to capture images of body structures at the same time that we view how the inside of the body works. With this information, we create a new understanding of how such diseases as multiple sclerosis and psychological disorders develop.
